About Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 8

Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 8 was chartered in 1890. Over the past 130 years, our highly skilled workforce has been a significant part of the growth in the Kansas City metro area. “The Plumber Protects the Health of the Nation” motto is instilled in each of our members. This commitment to safeguard our water, gas, and sanitary systems is taken very seriously by our members as they build schools, hospitals, and other commercial buildings in our community. Our training center prepares Local 8 Journeypersons and Apprentices with the skills to be industry leaders in welding, backflow protection, medical gases, and many other areas.

Education for Apprentices & Journeypersons

Experience

Our Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 8 Training Center UA-certified instructors have a minimum of 10 years experience in the field.

Technical Training

Our 5-year curriculum consist of over 1800 hours of classroom and hands-on training, as well as over 8750 hours of on the job training. Upon successful completion, a student will achieve backflow, medical gas, and plumbing licenses.

Apprentice Program

Apprentices that complete our program are among the very best in the industry. While working for one of our signatory contractors, Local 8 members attend classes at no charge.

Community

There are lots of fun social activities and charitable causes that Plumbers Local 8 supports, such as Christmas in October, Boy Scout Service Day, Plumbers Local 8 golf tournament, MINK bass tournament, and the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day parade,
